Leading Through Excellence
The School of Data Science views its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as mission-central and integral to the institution's overall future success and has published its first Inclusive Excellence Plan (2023-2026). It aligns with the University of Virginia’s adoption of the Inclusive Excellence framework as a means of supporting its diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts. The model for organizational change — which holds DEI as critical to achieving excellence — is being incorporated at each school and embedded throughout the UVA 2030 Plan. It makes use of five pillars: Access + Success, Climate + Intergroup Relations, Education + Scholarship, Infrastructure + Investment, and Community + Partnership.
The School of Data Science Inclusive Excellence Plan is not meant to be comprehensive but is a living document intended to build out the foundations of future work. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the focus will be on the pillars of Access and Success and Climate and Intergroup Relations to build a foundation for this work.
