Faculty Positions
Assistant Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs
The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) is assembling a diverse and world-class faculty with broad expertise in data science to foster and advance our research agenda and educational programs. We are seeking an experienced and strategic-minded educator/researcher to join our leadership team as the Assistant Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs. The Assistant Dean will hold a rank of Associate or Full professor, with tenure, in the School of Data Science and hold a 3-year renewable administrative appointment for these duties. As faculty in the school of data science, the Assistant Dean will also have (reduced) expectations for teaching, mentoring students, and engaging in research. The Assistant Dean will report to the Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs and oversee critical aspects of the faculty life cycle (e.g., recruitment, promotion, professional development) and/or academic affairs (e.g., curricula oversight of graduate and undergraduate programs, strategic planning, oversight of day-to-day operations). The AD will have the unique opportunity to shape the culture and direction of both a new discipline and a new school through their leadership and mentorship.
Assistant Dean for Research
We seek an experienced and strategic-minded tenured professor to join our team as the Assistant Dean for Research. The Assistant Dean will also hold a tenured faculty position in the School of Data Science. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Research, the Assistant Dean will work to develop, implement, and oversee research initiatives within the School of Data Science. The Assistant Dean holds a 5-year renewable administrative appointment for these duties. This position will collaborate closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Research and other school leaders to achieve our unit's goals and objectives while ensuring adherence to university policies and procedures. This position will also hold expectations of teaching, mentoring students, and engaging in research.
Quantitative Foundation Distinguished Associate or Full Professor of Data Science
The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) is assembling a diverse and world-class faculty with broad expertise in data science to foster and advance our research agenda and educational programs. We seek candidates for multiple Quantitative Foundation distinguished professorships in data science, at the rank of tenured associate professor or full professor. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated internationally recognized achievement in data science and made fundamental contributions to the discipline. These endowed positions are made possible by a generous gift by the Quantitative Foundation to establish the School of Data Science. Candidates for endowed faculty positions (associate and full professor with tenure) must demonstrate a record of excellence in research, teaching, and advising, in data science and/or closely related fields, and must have established a national/international reputation for contribution to the field in methodology, application, and impact.

Open Rank Professor of Data Science, Academic General Faculty, Teaching Track
The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) is assembling a diverse and world-class faculty with broad expertise in data science to foster and advance our Undergraduate, Master, and PhD programs. We are searching to fill multiple open rank professorships in data science on the Academic General Faculty Teaching Track. At the School of Data Science, Academic General Faculty on the Teaching Track instruct classes (in-person and online), conduct educational scholarship, engage in grant-driven research, and advise and mentor students. Exceptional candidates will demonstrate experience with, or the potential for, sustained scholarship in data science education or a research specialty in an academic or industry setting. Academic General Faculty are afforded significant stability with long-term contracts, support for professional development, and leadership opportunities (e.g., all program directors are currently academic general faculty on the teaching track).

The manager will also oversee internal and external communications, align with AP and UVA style, and provide strategic guidance for the School’s website.
