Whether you're exploring from afar or ready to visit the University of Virginia, our team and student ambassadors are here to answer every question along the way.

We welcome visits on a walk-in basis in Room 357 of the School of Data Science Building at 1919 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA.

You may explore the building on your own during business hours. If you have questions about your visit or would like to schedule a tour, email sdsadmissions@virginia.edu. Student ambassador-led tours will resume in September 2026.

Summer 2026 Orientation

Orientation for incoming first-year students is in July and August, 2026.

On Day 2 of orientation, we will host an information session in the Newcomb Hall South Meeting Room at 2:00 p.m. (no registration required). Refer to the orientation schedule for details. We will also have an Admissions team member available in the School of Data Science building on those dates to speak with visitors.

M.S. in Data Science (Residential and Online)

Schedule a one-on-one conversation with an admissions advisor to explain the curriculum, prerequisite coursework, and the application process.

Ph.D. in Data Science

The Ph.D. in Data Science program does not require students to identify a research supervisor prior to applying for our program. We encourage you to carefully review our faculty profiles to learn about the School of Data Science research portfolio and environment, and we will require you to detail your research interests that align with our faculty on the application.
Once a student in our program, we facilitate interactions between faculty and Ph.D. students to showcase their research, and students usually choose a supervising faculty member by the end of their second year in the program.

Schedule Your Visit

Tours of the School of Data Science

Register for an in-person student ambassador-led tour of the School of Data Science. These 30-minute tours are offered during the academic year on Fridays at 12 p.m. and select other days. Student ambassadors will highlight what it's like to be a student at the School of Data Science and all the features of our new building, which opened in June 2024.

Tours are open to all prospective School of Data Science undergraduate and graduate students. For a large group tour or to request a tour on a different day, email sdsadmissions@virginia.edu to coordinate your visit.
