Data Justice Academy Welcomes 15 Student Researchers to Second Year
The School of Data Science welcomed 15 undergraduates to the 2023 Data Justice Academy (DJA) the program's second year hosting students for an intensive 10-week summer residency. The research program is designed as an immersive residential experience for undergraduate students from groups historically underrepresented in data science. DJA students work on teams doing research on topics ranging from health disparities and police surveillance to facial recognition and large language models. In addition to mentored research, students will participate in technical skills training and professional development with data science faculty and staff. This summer's program is made possible by corporate sponsors Deloitte and Capital One.
The 2023 DJA cohort hails from 12 colleges and universities with backgrounds in computer science, criminal justice, economics, mathematics, political science, psychology, and sociology.
