Overview

Each year, participants receive a challenge prompt and data set focused on an important societal issue. Students analyze the information, develop recommendations, and submit their work for evaluation by faculty and data science professionals.

No previous data science experience is required.

Prizes

Winning teams will receive gift cards totaling $500, divided equally among team members. Winners will also be invited to the University of Virginia School of Data Science to meet faculty, students, and researchers over lunch and learn more about studying and working in data science.

Who Can Participate?

The Data + Society Challenge is open to students who:

  • Are currently enrolled in grades 10, 11, or 12
  • Reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Register as an individual or as part of a team of up to five students

Students from public, private, and homeschool programs are welcome to participate.
