We have organized this webpage to present you with various resources that will hopefully give you a sense of who we are at the University of Virginia and in the greater Charlottesville community. We really look forward to the time when we can safely showcase our beautiful campus and meet all of our potential team members in person. But, until that time, we want to make sure you have enough information to comfortably decide these next steps in your career.
So to begin, here's a little bit about us... 
In an increasingly data driven society, the mission of the new School of Data Science is to train high-quality, diverse, responsible practitioners and leaders in the field of data science, conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative research that provides societal benefit, and work with communities, near and far, to provide benefit through data science applied to meet their own needs.
The School of Data Science – UVA’s 12th school and the first established since 2007 – is made possible by a $120 million gift from the Quantitative Foundation, as well as funding from the University and the state. It will position UVA as a global leader in efforts to improve society through teaching and research based on the powerful, emerging field of data science
Envisioned as a “School without Walls,” it is designed as an open ecosystem that fosters interdisciplinary research, teaching, and partnerships across the University, with the private sector, and with government and community organizations.

The Class of 2020: Our first cohort of the UVA School of Data Science
This past May we graduated our first official cohort from the UVA School of Data of Science. They were an incredible group of students who, along with our team of faculty and staff, persevered through some very difficult challenges.
The graduation video is a recap of the 2019-2020 academic year. We hope that it will give you a sense of the strength and diversity of our student body, as well as the hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff!
