Why pursue a Ph.D. in Data Science?

I always have been curious about learning how to apply quantitative topics to solve problems. This interest expanded when I was introduced to data science concepts, such as optimization principles and algorithm design, as an undergraduate student. I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Data Science not only to continue to learn more cutting-edge techniques but also to one day become a professor and help students discover their passion for data science.
