Scott G. Stephenson is the founder of SGS Capital and the former Chairman, President, and CEO of Verisk Analytics, a leading data analytics and risk assessment firm. During his tenure as CEO from 2013 to 2021, Verisk was recognized by Forbes as one of the world’s most innovative companies and became a component of the S&P 500 Index. Stephenson was named one of the world’s most innovative leaders by Forbes in 2016.
Under his leadership, the company’s market capitalization quadrupled, and its global presence expanded significantly. Verisk also earned distinctions such as being named a Great Place to Work™ for six consecutive years and one of America’s Most Just Companies.
Before joining Verisk, Stephenson was a Senior Partner at The Boston Consulting Group, where he worked closely with Fortune 50 CEOs and was the founding partner of the firm’s southeastern U.S. practice. He serves on several corporate and nonprofit boards, including PSEG (NYSE), Definitive Healthcare (NASDAQ), The Bowery Mission (Chair), the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard, and the University of Virginia School of Data Science. He also serves as an elder of Central Presbyterian Church in New York City.
A graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Stephenson also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Along with his wife, Beth, he established the Stephenson Dean of Data Science at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. Stephenson resides in New York City with his family.
Beth Johnston Stephenson
Beth Johnston Stephenson currently serves on the boards of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the Eleazer Wheelock Society.
Stephenson was a founding partner of Chicago-based Willis Stein & Partners, a private equity firm that, on behalf of its limited partners, invested in, supported, and exited portfolios of control investments focused on the areas of business services, manufacturing, media, telecommunications, and health care.
Before Willis Stein, she was a managing director of Continental Illinois Venture Corp. Previously, she worked at Hewlett-Packard, Boston Consulting Group, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Stephenson received an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and an A.B. in History from Dartmouth College.
