Build Confidence in R Programming for Data-Driven Learning
The R Boot Camp is a focused onboarding course that introduces core programming skills needed for coursework in statistics, modeling, and data science. Designed for students and professionals at any experience level, this short boot camp helps learners enter the classroom prepared and ready to succeed.
This course is part of the School of Data Science’s prerequisite offerings and may be required for admitted MSDS students who do not yet meet the programming prerequisite.
What You'll Learn
The R Boot Camp includes three foundational units that support hands-on skill development:
R syntax and object types
Data structures and indexing
Basics of data manipulation and workflow
Participants finish the sequence by completing the R Assessment, which evaluates readiness for graduate-level coursework. Students may attempt the assessment without completing the boot camp.

Assessment Option
The R Assessment 2026 will also be available as a free, standalone option with a 30-day enrollment window. The autograder will evaluate only the first submission.
During spring 2026, faculty and instructional staff will introduce refreshed videos, revised quizzes, and updated Gradescope assignments based on the first-cycle analysis and faculty feedback.
