UVA’s School of Data Science Launches Art Competition
Data, like art, can tell compelling stories about our world and ourselves, which is why the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science has launched a new competition that challenges artists of all backgrounds to turn raw data into works of art.
The Data is ART Competition is an open call for submissions built around the theme of “Our World,” with the grand prize winner taking home $5,000. A group of traditional and data visualization artists will judge the competition, and entrants can submit in a variety of categories.
In addition to the top prize, other artists may also be recognized with trophies, certificates, or even monetary awards in the various categories. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 10, 2024, and winners will be announced on April 26 of next year at an awards ceremony.
The inaugural Data is ART competition coincides with the April 2024 opening of the new home of the School of Data Science. In fact, the building that will house the school will also host a public exhibition of selected works of art from the competition, offering artists a significant platform to showcase their creativity and artistic vision.
