Students interested in job and internship opportunities in the expansive data science and analytics field recently attended the University of Virginia’s Fall Data Science and Analytics Night, an annual event hosted by the University’s Career Center and held in Scott Stadium’s Bryant Hall.

M.S. in Data Science Residential Student Ambassador, Kurt Samuels, described the networking event as a great way to learn about career prospects in the data science field.

Samuels said that Data Science and Analytics Night, “Provided a wide array of industries such as real estate, consulting, education, and government services. All of which were looking to attain employees with our specific technical skillset.”

Data Analytics Night hosted recruiters from over ten companies including: 2nd Order Solutions, AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), CNA (Center for Naval Analyses), FBI Richmond, Fannie Mae, Hazen and Sawyer, Investure, Kearney & Company, MarketView, NIWC (Naval Information Warfare Center), SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation), and Sage Analysis Group. As well as Career Center sponsors, Booz Allen Hamilton and CoStar Group.

Student Ambassador Hannah Valenty enjoyed attending the event, as she had the chance to explore career opportunities and represent UVA’s Data Science program through working at the School of Data Science admissions table.

“As a participant, I enjoyed the data science and analytics career night with the opportunity to focus especially on companies looking for the skills I am gaining in the program,” said Valenty.

“While serving as an ambassador at the event, it was great to see so many of my classmates getting to make connections with employers and each other,” she continued. “I was happy to talk with undergraduate students outside the School of Data Science and hear about how they can use their data skills across disciplines.”

Those interested in the programs offered by the School of Data Science are invited to attend an admissions open house on November 15, 2024. Information sessions will be held for our Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. programs. Student Ambassador-led tours will occur in the School of Data Science building at 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, and 11:30 AM.
