C4K Hosts Starr Hill Pathway Students for Data Analytics Game
C4K worked with the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science to organize an event for eight Starr Hill Pathways students who were out of school for a teacher workday. They played a game at the Clubhouse, designed to teach them important data analytics concepts.
During the game, the students engaged in a tabletop basketball activity where they collected data, looked at the results, and worked together on strategies for the next rounds based on what they learned.
The goal was to make learning about data analytics interesting by using sports themes. The activities helped the students understand the concepts used in careers related to sports analytics. It also gave them a chance to talk about other industries and jobs that use data analytics.
Representatives from the School of Data Science and William Proffitt, a senior software engineer at Elder Research, shared their experiences working on similar projects in school and at their jobs.
C4K is looking forward to working with its partners to improve the activity and make it available to more students in the future. If you have questions about the game, feel free to contact Colin Learmonth, director of operations at C4K.
