BSDS Accelerate introduces students to experiential learning

This semester's first BSDS Accelerate workshop introduced students to concepts that will aid in their data science education. Sarah Rogis, director of career and professional development, and Dahlia Hylton, associate dean of student affairs, spoke to undergraduate data science students on the concept of experiential learning. Rogis and Hylton encouraged students to equip themselves with knowledge, skills, and values through direct participation and reflection on real-world experiences. They stressed that experiential learning was essential to their data science journey and encouraged students to pursue internships, workshops, and events that would allow them to gain skills through lived experience. They also covered life design, prototyping, access to the SELF Fund, and familiarization with the LIGHT guide, a new resource for students to identify their success needs and align them with their curriculum.
