Dr. Dahlia Hylton’s work in higher education has afforded her the opportunity to work at both public and private institutions including the University of California, Santa Barbara (Director, Office of Black Student Development), Lehigh University (Director, Office of Multicultural Affairs), the University of North Carolina at Asheville (Director, Intercultural Center and Multicultural Student Programs), and her beloved alma mater Auburn University (Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs). Within these roles, Hylton worked to assist each institutions’ mission of promoting and sustaining diversity, inclusion, and equitable practices through the provision of building a comprehensive cultural space, engaging students, faculty, staff, and alumni of many identities from across campus.
In addition to the oversight of these cultural spaces, further campus service included designing and implementing multicultural education training, student advising, and retention programming. A few examples of service work included serving as staff co-chair for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee where she – along with a faculty co-chair – guided year-long programming that promoted dialogue in alignment with the work of Dr. King. Additionally, she served as the chair of the Faculty and Staff of Color Network - a supportive network for faculty and staff - in an effort to provide professional development, increase networking to strengthen the retention of faculty and staff of color at Lehigh University, and educate the campus community by providing awareness concerning
particular issues that surround faculty and staff of color.
Regarded as a student-centered practitioner with a strong culture of collaboration, Hylton’s extensive student affairs experience has placed a significant focus on student access and success. A few of her contributions included serving as faculty-led for LeaderShape and SpringSERVE (Birmingham, AL, and Lexington, VA); serving as an Advocate for students who are survivors of sexual assault violence; establishing, in partnership with Lehigh University’s Office of Student Engagement, The LU Legacy Program, a mission-driven accreditation program for multicultural student organizations to assist in sustaining organizational growth and leadership; serving as co-chair of the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT); and a multitude of student-centered programming focused on inclusive communication, leadership development, service-learning, and purpose driven engagement.
Dr. Hylton holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, a Master's in Adult Education, and a Bachelor’s in Marketing – all from Auburn University (Auburn, Alabama). Additionally, she holds a Masters's in Human Resource Management from Troy University (Troy, Alabama). She is also a licensed REALTOR in the state of Georgia.
In her spare time, you can find her nose deep in a book - particularly about personal development - sweating it out in Pure Barre class or hiking, and searching for healthy and alternative ways to cook Southern and Caribbean food.
