Abstract: The biggest issues we face in the world today —  from health to climate, migration to income inequality — are complex and interconnected; they are all part of one system. Yet the data and knowledge we need to tackle these challenges is siloed; we only ever see a part of the whole. This is largely because the way the world's knowledge was organized ages ago, into disciplines and based on language, is not designed for complexity. It is outdated and crumbling and hindering progress toward a better future. We urgently need a new public knowledge infrastructure based on systems that powers the next generation of research, policy, and innovations. This talk will introduce System, an effort to use AI and collective intelligence to assemble an unprecedented open, living, and quantitative model of the world as one system, all related and connected.
