Brain in Data Science Symposium 2024

This symposium marks the beginning of a new era for Brain in Data Science (BIDS) at UVA by bringing together, for the first time, colleagues from across grounds and beyond with a shared interest in brain research through the lens of data science. This year’s event will focus on neuroimaging applications and serve as a catalyst for future collaborations in brain and data science research.

The scientific program will open with remarks from leaders of UVA, School of Data Science (SDS), and Psychology Department, followed by a keynote address from a distinguished speaker. The event will also include plenary sessions focused on key topics presented by speakers from both within and outside the School of Data Science.  The closing session will feature Kevin Pelphrey from UVA's School of Medicine who will provide insights into the future opportunities that data science offers for brain research. At the end of the day, a networking reception will be held to give participants the chance to connect in a relaxed and informal environment.

The UVA BIDS Symposium is a one-day conference hosted by the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science and will take place in the new Data Science building. The 2024 symposium is the inaugural event and aspires to become an annual tradition. This is a unique opportunity for everyone interested in brain and data science — students eager to connect with experts, expand their knowledge, and enhance their skills, as well as faculty and professionals looking to grow their networking and explore new collaborative possibilities. The UVA BIDS Symposium aligns with the core values of the School of Data Science: advancing discovery, sharing knowledge, and making a positive impact on society through collaborative, open, and responsible data science research and education.
