Our team is here to support the planning, coordination, and successful execution of events that align with our mission to advance responsible data science for the common good.

CIOs and SSOs who plan to host an event at the School of Data Science must coordinate with the Office of Student Affairs. Send event details to sdsstudentaffairs@virginia.edu at least two weeks in advance of the planned event.
The School of Data Science offers the following spaces for reservation by both internal stakeholders and external parties:
Capital One Hub
The two-story Capital One Hub is an open space ideal for large gatherings, presentations, and conferences. The main floor can be configured in multiple seating styles, and there is additional seating in the second-floor balcony. The large screen can be custom designed for your event, and the room is equipped with built-in video conferencing. The Hub connects to the first-floor Atrium.

Corporate Commons
Located on the first floor of the UVA School of Data Science, the Corporate Commons is a glass-enclosed meeting and event space ideal for collaborative gatherings, workshops, and small presentations. It includes built-in A/V, small tables, additional plush seating, a workcounter, small kitchenette, and a breakout room that seats six.

Lobby and Atrium
The open Lobby and Atrium span the length of the building. They connect to the Capital One Hub and feature a check-in area, counter table, access to a kitchenette, and options for flexible configuration.

Board Room
The Board Room is located on the first floor and features a 27-foot table made from reclaimed wood. The room includes built-in A/V on both ends of the room and is ideal for meetings and presentations.

Classrooms
There are four classrooms available for reservation outside of scheduled classes. They include both active learning and seminar setups with varying seating capacity.

Active learning classrooms have clear sightlines and flat design, decreasing instructor-to-student distance and reducing traditional hierarchy of front-facing rooms. It promotes a student-centered environment for teaching and learning. Flexible tables and chairs encourage group collaboration.
Seminar classrooms feature tiered, U-shaped seating. The room promotes clear sightlines and engagement among participants, and each seat is equipped with power access and clear sightlines to the room's multiple display screens and whiteboards.

Fourth-Floor Terrace
The fourth-floor terrace overlooks the corner of Emmet Street and Ivy Road with panoramic views to Central Grounds. At 98 feet, it spans the full length of the building and is ideal for outdoor receptions.

Event Policy and Procedures
Events hosted or sponsored by the School of Data Science (SDS) must fall under one or more of these categories and be mission-aligned with the School.

- Targeted to prospective students, community, or industry partners
- Tied to student programming, research showcases, or faculty lectures
