Sabine Segaloff is a Ph.D. in Data Science student at the University of Virginia. Her research interests include dataset formation, specifically what information survives as data moves through technical systems and what gets lost in the translation.
Segaloff's path to data science began as an archaeology research assistant, when she taught herself deep learning tools to map settlement patterns in Zambia and found that the most challenging part of the process was the human decisions required to create the data. She hopes to teach at the intersection of data engineering, machine learning, and anthropology.
Segaloff holds an M.S. in Data Science from the University of Virginia and a B.S. in Anthropology from Virginia Commonwealth University.
