Jaeho Kim is a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Virginia School of Data Science, where he works with Professor Tom Hartvigsen in the RAVE group. His main research focuses on addressing data scarcity in time-series AI.
Many real-world time-series applications, from healthcare to industrial systems, suffer from limited, costly, or hard-to-collect data, which constrains what modern AI models can learn. Kim develops methods that make it easy to generate high-quality synthetic time-series data, aiming to lower the barrier to building reliable time-series models in data-limited settings. Beyond time-series AI, Kim is deeply interested in the challenges that AI poses to society. He has written position papers on issues such as the crisis in scientific peer review and the risk of AI lock-in, with the goal of bringing these problems to the attention of both the research community and the broader public. His work in this area was recognized with an Outstanding Position Paper Award at ICML 2025.
Before joining UVA, Kim spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at the AI Lab at Korea University, where he worked with Professor Changhee Lee. He received his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from UNIST under the supervision of Professor Seulki Lee.
