Why pursue a Ph.D. in Data Science?
As a Ph.D. student in Data Science at the University of Virginia, my goal is to use machine learning to share accurate, ethical insights with both my peers and the public. My research focuses on fairness, accountability, and accessibility in machine learning—ensuring that the models we create are equitable, inclusive, and grounded in social and historical context. Ultimately, I aim to design systems that reflect these values, shape policy, and drive fair, data-driven solutions.
In addition to my work on fairness in machine learning, I apply these principles to real-world challenges through remote sensing and hyperspectral analysis. By leveraging cutting-edge machine learning techniques, I tackle problems such as improving environmental sustainability and uncovering patterns in spectral data that can inform meaningful change.
