The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia is seeking applications for a Special Assistant for Administration. The position will hold operational responsibilities for the school's faculty promotion and tenure processes, coordinate faculty searches and orientations, manage projects and initiatives for the associate deans, organize portions of the annual faculty reporting process, provide administrative and project support for the School Academic Affairs Council, and support other efforts of the dean's office.
The incumbent will drive continuous improvement by coordinating administration, operations, and special projects related to personnel policies and processes. This is a unique position operating at the intersection of faculty affairs, staff development, and resource management. This position will report to the School’s Chief of Staff with additional oversight by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The position will include collaborating with leadership to operationalize all aspects of the hiring plan, including coordination of immigration services when appropriate, and liaising with HR business partners and recruiters serving the School and all searches in which the school is involved. The incumbent will interface with leadership to coordinate and communicate internal procedures across multiple locations and stakeholder groups. The incumbent will coordinate workforce planning and recruiting results with the finance team to ensure appropriate allocation of funds. The incumbent will also advise on student recruitment and related services in the context of experiential learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree with at least four years of relevant experience OR advanced degree with at least one year of relevant experience. 8 years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
- Strong experience in general administrative functions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resource management.
- Applicants must have the ability to lead and manage projects using complex information, provide specialized advice, and align the School with University, state, and any applicable federal policies and regulations.
- The ability to advise school leaders and members appropriately, utilizing outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as operationalizing the implementation of school policies and procedures.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret information for senior leaders.
- Experience using MS Office and an enterprise level HR system.
- Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with the Workday system is preferred.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $60,000-$75,000
