When are applications due?

The search committee will begin review of applications on July 27 and hopes to have virtual conversations with candidates during the first week of August. The position will remain open until filled.

I am not sure I have the stated qualifications.

We will accept any combination of study and work experience for the desired 8 years of experience.  In your cover letter, please include a paragraph summarizing any relevant experience, including unpaid work, informal study, etc.

Note that a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required, but experience can be considered in lieu of a Master’s Degree.

Does residency mean I have to be present full-time in Charlottesville for the year?

We are looking for someone who will engage with the School of Data Science community, including faculty, staff, students and local, national and international partners. Given that much of this community interaction is taking place virtually in 2020-21, a virtual residency is possible.  In your proposal, please indicate your plans/preferences for full-time/part-time residency in Charlottesville or virtual residency.  To the extent possible, your proposal should specify how you expect to interact with the Data Science community, especially students.  Contact Dr. Scholz (cws3v@virginia.edu) if you’d like to discuss what such interactions might look like.

What is the term of the residency?

The residency is for one year, though it is renewable for a second year if the project impact and progress warrants it. In your proposal, please indicate your preferred start date.

Will I have to pay for project costs myself?

No. If you anticipate your projects will require funds, for example to purchase data sets, etc. please include a budget estimate in your proposal.
