This year, the School of Data Science is celebrating 18 M.S in Data Science graduates. These students joined the SDS community from a variety of backgrounds and professions, brought their considerable talent and tenacity to their studies, and were open collaborators with their classmates, faculty, and capstone sponsors. Wood Family Outstanding Student in Data Science Awards
The Wood Family Awards are made possible by a generous endowment from the Wood family. Oscar Wood is a valuable and active member of the Data Science Board for the School of Data Science, and has been a member since its inception. Oscar is dedicated to the future of data science and in speaking to our budding data scientists, he says, “Use your skills to contribute and impact initiatives for the greater good. It can be immensely rewarding and personally satisfying.” It is because of his belief in the future of data science, that his family chose to establish an endowment for these awards to recognize and reward excellence in the field.
This award goes to a student who has demonstrated overall excellence in academic performance. The student is voted on by the teaching faculty in the online M.S. in Data Science program for this award. The award recipients display an outstanding work ethic, dedication to the field, and are excellent collaborators both with peers, instructors, and the team. This student demonstrates outstanding service to the School of Data Science community, the UVA community, and the broader data science community.
This year we're excited to present Sam Tyree with this award! Sam has excelled in the coursework at the School of Data Science, asked thoughtful questions, demonstrated incredible work ethic, and mastered complex material. Congratulations Sam!
