School of Data Science Hire Expands Alumni Engagement

The University of Virginia School of Data Science is expanding its efforts to build lifelong connections with alumni, parents, and friends through the creation of a new leadership role focused on alumni engagement and community building.

Peyton Baldwin has joined the School as associate director of alumni engagement, an inaugural position that reflects the School’s continued growth and its commitment to fostering meaningful relationships across its rapidly expanding alumni network.

The new role was created to help strengthen how alumni stay informed, involved, and invested in the School and one another through programming, communications, mentorship, volunteer opportunities, regional engagement, and signature events. As the School of Data Science continues to grow its undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, the position will help establish long-term engagement strategies that connect alumni more intentionally with students, faculty, and the broader School community.

In her role, Baldwin will collaborate across advancement, career services, events, and marketing and communications to help lead alumni programming and communications efforts, support major School events, strengthen mentorship and networking opportunities, and build new avenues for alumni involvement. The position will also support initiatives such as alumni storytelling, regional receptions, industry engagement, and the development of alumni affinity groups and city-based alumni chapters.

“Peyton brings a strong understanding of the UVA community and a genuine passion for relationship building and student engagement,” said Sarah Rogis, director of career and professional development at the School of Data Science. “As our alumni network continues to grow, this role will help create meaningful opportunities for connection that support both our graduates and current students.”

A proud double Hoo, Baldwin most recently served as associate director of academic services for University of Virginia Athletics, where she supported student-athletes in their academic and personal development. She earned both her undergraduate degree and M.Ed. in student affairs practice in higher education from the University of Virginia and was also a varsity swimmer during her time at UVA.

For Baldwin, the opportunity to help shape alumni engagement at a growing and forward-looking school was especially compelling.

“The School of Data Science is building something incredibly dynamic and impactful, and I’m excited to help create opportunities for alumni to remain connected and engaged as the community continues to grow,” Baldwin said. “UVA has always been a place centered on relationships and lifelong connection, and I’m looking forward to helping strengthen those experiences for School of Data Science alumni.”

The position will also work closely with the School’s Career Services team to help expand mentorship and networking opportunities for students and alumni alike, including the development of new engagement initiatives that connect alumni expertise with student success and professional development.

As the School continues to evolve, the addition of the associate director of alumni engagement role represents another step in building a strong and connected community that extends far beyond Grounds.
