Introducing the Online M.S. in Data Science Class of 2023
The School of Data Science welcomed its newest cohort of Online M.S. in Data Science students, the ninth since the program’s inception in 2019. 34 students began their first classes in January. They hail from across the country and from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Professional occupations include a doctor, a high school teacher, a research biologist, a product analyst, an engineer, a legislative aid, and a sales VP, among others. Here are a few data points to highlight the diversity and breadth of this class.
- 23 undergraduate schools represented (including 10 from UVA)
- 7 students born outside of the U.S.
- 11 states of residency, and Washington, D.C.
- 31 average age
- 41% women
- 20% first generation
- 6% veteran
- 5 have < 1 year of work experience
- 6 have > 5 years of work experience
Students in the online M.S. in Data Science are part-time students earning their master’s over five terms. There are currently 195 students enrolled in the online program. Please join the School of Data Science in welcoming this new cohort!
