How Stellic Is Changing the Way Students Schedule, Track Degrees, and Engage with Advisors

Stellic, a degree management platform, has been introduced to undergraduate students at the School of Data Science. The School of Data Science is one of two schools at the University of Virginia trialing Stellic during the 2024 fall semester.  

Features provided by Stellic will improve how students schedule courses and select classes that align with their academic goals. The platform offers students the option to drag and drop courses into future semesters and view the timeframe the course is offered in as well as required prerequisites.

Students will have the opportunity to engage with advisors through the platform and explore different majors and minors offered by the University of Virginia.  

Trends can be identified by academic departments through Stellic, which will provide data on courses in high demand.

In a recent workshop hosted by the School of Data Science, Associate Director of Advising Technology, Sarah Dodge, discussed ways to navigate and engage with the platform. Dodge highlighted that Stellic gives students an efficient way to manage their experiences in academia.  

“By integrating course planning, degree tracking, and advisor communication, it brings all aspects of advising into one platform, giving students the control and foresight to make informed academic choices with confidence,” explained Dodge.  

“This aligns well with a future-focused approach, helping students envision not just their next semester but their entire academic journey.”  

Heather Corley, Student Success Advisor for the UVA School of Data Science, reflected on the ways in which transitioning to the intuitive planning platform will change the way that students, advisors, and faculty interact with academic scheduling platforms.  

“Students no longer need to create their own planners and can visualize their schedules. It makes it easy for advisors to keep track of students and their academic goals, improves communication, log student meetings, and most importantly facilitates proactive alerts and referrals for when students need additional support.” said Corley.

Undergraduate students across Grounds can look forward to using the Stellic platform for Spring 2025 course enrollment.
