The Ph.D. in Data Science is full-time and in-person at the University of Virginia. All admitted students receive full funding (tuition, health insurance, and an annual stipend), and faculty matching is not required at the time of application.

The Ph.D. in Data Science is a rigorous program, and applicants must demonstrate their ability to succeed in our educational environment. We seek candidates from a variety of academic disciplines and backgrounds. A master’s degree is not required to apply, and having one does not make an applicant more or less competitive in the admissions process.
