As soon as you accept your offer of admission to the School of Data Science, you’ll begin receiving information on your next steps, including an IT checklist, enrollment details, tuition and fees, and other resources.
The School of Data Science requires all new students to attend Orientation, which typically occurs the week prior to a program's first day of class. Exact dates and other requirements will be communicated to UVA email addresses before the start of the term. International students are also required to attend an orientation session hosted by the International Students Office.
B.S. in Data Science orientation is typically held prior to the first day of classes. Students will review curriculum, explore the building, connect with members of their cohort, and learn how to make the most of their experience throughout the three-year major. The schedule will be sent to incoming students’ UVA email address in July.
Online M.S. in Data Science virtual orientation sessions are live and typically occur Tuesday and Wednesday evenings the week prior to the start of classes. During this time, you will hear from the program director, meet your academic support team, and get to know your cohort.
Orientation for M.S. in Data Science residential students is held in person the week prior to the start of the fall semester. Topics covered include program information, academic resources, faculty and staff introductions, cohort bonding, and technology orientation.
Orientation for the Ph.D. in Data Science occurs in person the week prior to the start of the fall semester. Topics include program overview, building tour, and faculty introductions.
