The UVa Center for Excellence in Education's Innovation in Education Week will be held February 26-March 1, 2024. This year’s theme is focused on the future of AI in education.

Dean Philip Bourne, School of Data Science, will be the speaker during the Dean’s Forum and will address “Medical Education Seen Through the Lens of Data Science and AI.”

Training the next generation of healthcare providers amidst the digital transformation of society writ large needs careful consideration. Bourne would argue that medical devices, available drugs, the point of care, how care providers view patients and how patients view care providers are all in a state of change. Training has always lagged the capabilities of the market, but with the rapid rate of change now underway the gap widens. How can the gap be narrowed will be the question he will address with the audience.

The annual Innovation in Education Week highlights and celebrates educational research and innovations among UVA faculty, staff, fellows, residents, postdocs, graduate students, and medical students. This dedicated week to education in academic medicine seeks to increase interest in scholarship and innovations in teaching and learning more broadly, provide professional development and networking opportunities, and connect the UVA community with internationally known educational researchers.
