Background: B.A. Astronomy and Physics, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, 2015; Undergraduate Researcher, University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA); Science Teacher, Kenton Forest School (Blackstone, VA)

Why data science? I was first made aware of data science as a field by a friend of mine. Every time I talked to him about it he would describe a project he was working on that seemed both incredibly fun to work on and incredibly helpful for users. Because of this, I looked into an online course that took a data science-centered approach on a topic I was well-versed in: astronomy. Through it, I learned about an array of different methods for tackling the huge amounts of data in that field, many of which I'd never even heard of during my undergraduate studies. That was when I realized that data science can have wide-reaching applications and that I wanted to study it seriously.

Research and Career Interests: My research interests are varied; almost anything that seems like a clever use of data science can pique my interest. But I'm most interested in machine learning and its potential applications in scientific fields.
