There is an ever-increasing amount of data—90% of all the data in the world has been created in the last two years—and an unprecedented opportunity to transform our world. We want to make sure it’s for the better.

Our team is investigating ways to improve healthcare, education, the environment, infrastructure, policy development, and the criminal justice system, among many other things. Through research projects, community-based events, and participation in local initiatives and civic life, we put our data science tools and techniques to work for the community.

We believe not only in being ethical data scientists, we also believe in being responsible ones. From the projects we choose to investigate, to the questions we ask ourselves as we collect, engineer, and analyze datasets, to how we teach and train our students to do the same—it is our duty to ensure that the incredible power and possibilities of data science are used responsibly to make a positive impact on our world.
