Incoming Residential Students:
Q: Will the first semester of the residential MSDS Class of 2021 - starting in July -- be offered in an online format?
A: Yes, the School of Data Science has decided to move first semester of the residential MSDS program online. Classes for the first semester of the residential MSDS will still begin July 13, but they will be delivered remotely.
Q: Will Orientation and Technical Boot Camp be online?
A: Yes, Orientation & Technical Boot Camp (July 6-10) will be online. The order of the events may change, Orientation will most likely be first, but the dates are remaining the same. A calendar can be viewed here soon.
Q: How can I connect with other admitted students?
A: We have created a private Facebook page for newly admitted residential MSDS students. Please contact email@example.com if you’d like to be invited to the group.
Q: When will applications for Graduate Housing be available?
A: Here in May the Graduate housing will be available.
Q: Will the School of Data Science accept Pass/Fail and Credit/No-Credit from the current institutions of higher learning that some students are graduating from this year?
A: Yes, like UVA, most universities have switched their grading systems in light of the COVID-19 health crisis. The School of Data Science will accept “passing” and “credit” grades for the spring semester 2020.
Q: May I defer my enrollment?
A: The School of Data Science does not as a policy allow students to defer admissions, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the unprecedented disruption to all institutions of higher learning, students applying for admission during the 2020-2021 academic year, will be eligible to defer admittance for one academic year until June 15, 2020. Q: Is SDS still accepting applications to the online program?
A: The UVS School of Data Science will continue to offer its high quality online MSDS program, uninterrupted, with the help of our dedicated faculty, administration, partners and support staff.

Q: What’s my best course of action if I’m unable to submit my GRE scores as a result of test center closures?
A: In response to COVID-19, SDS is temporarily waiving the GRE requirement for online MSDS applicants for the Summer ‘20 and Fall ‘20 terms. Please contact an enrollment advisor at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at (434) 264-5759 to learn more.
Q: My income may be disrupted due to COVID-19, therefore I may not be able to afford the application fee and, if admitted to the program, the deposit fee.
A: In response to COVID-19, SDS is temporarily waiving the application fee and reducing the deposit fee for the online MSDS. Please contact an enrollment advisor to learn more.
Q: What’s my best course of action if I’m unable to secure official transcripts?
A: Many institutions are currently able to process transcripts electronically. However, we understand that colleges and universities may be struggling with staffing availability during these times. Therefore, please contact an enrollment advisor if you’re unable to secure the required information and we’ll work with you to find a viable path forward.
