Assistant Director, Career Advising, Data Science and Analytics

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000 - $65,000

The Data Science Institute (DSI) and the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia, seeks an Assistant Director of Career Advising to lead initiatives in support of students who are interested in data science and advanced analytics careers. Consistent with the mission and vision of the DSI and SEAS, the Assistant Director develops and maintains collaborative relationships with primary constituent groups, including but not limited to, career services affiliate offices, students, faculty and staff, employers, parents, and alumni. This position will report to the Associate Director for Career Connections and Community Engagement and will serve as a part of the DSI and SEAS Center for Career Development teams. Some evening and weekend work is required. 

A Master's Degree is required as are at least two years of relevant work experience. Knowledge of career planning, consultation, resume writing, and job search strategies is essential. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills are required as is the ability to advise students at all stages of career development. Applicants must have the ability to work independently as well as a part of team, and demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment serving constituents from a wide variety of backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft office is also required. Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate an ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of career assessment tools including Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Career Leader, Clifton Strengths, FOCUS2, etc is highly preferred.

Knowledge of trends in career development, economy, effective interventions, technology, and higher education networks is highly desired.
