Dean Bourne Delivers Keynote Address to Michigan Technological University’s Computing Showcase

Phil Bourne, Dean of the University of Virginia’s School of Data Science, delivered the keynote address to Michigan Technological University during day two of their computing showcase.  

Dean Bourne was joined by Netflix’s director of content security, Dianne Marsh, as the two discussed how data and computing are changing the world.  

Dean Bourne pointed to the massive changes in academia, uplifting SDS’s “School without walls,” and the intersections between data science and other fields. 

“We’re doing projects with religious studies, we’re doing projects with economics, we’re doing projects with biomedicine, we’re doing projects with fintech — all of them driven, obviously, by a lot of data,” he said.
