Claudia Scholz Receives Mentoring Award from NORDP
The University of Virginia School of Data Science is pleased to share that Claudia Scholz has received the 2026 Mentoring Award from the National Organization of Research Development Professionals.
Presented at NORDP’s annual conference this week, the Mentoring Award recognizes an individual member’s exceptional ability to foster an engaging, supportive, and inclusive environment for professional and personal growth within the research development community.
Scholz was honored for her sustained commitment to mentorship and her impact on colleagues in the fields of research development and research administration. Through her guidance, she has helped cultivate emerging professionals and strengthen the broader research development ecosystem.
For the last four years, Scholz has mentored individuals and small groups of colleagues representing universities across the country, including the University of Virginia, Harvard University, University of Maryland, Penn State University, Purdue University, and Bryn Mawr College. She has also served as a career navigator and resume coach for new NORDP members.
Like data science, research development is an emerging field. NORDP serves as a clearinghouse of best practices and professional standards for people in administrative roles in higher education and research institutes.
Beyond NORDP, Scholz teaches a module on ethics in the Research Administration Certificate Program at the University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. She also serves as a peer reviewer for Research Development Review, the first journal for the profession.
