Author and scholar Virginia Eubanks on tech, data, and inequality

December 11, 2019

In author and scholar Virginia Eubanks' new book, "Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor," Eubanks investigates the impacts of data mining, policy algorithms, and predictive models on poor and working-class people in America.

We were thrilled to have her join us for a discussion on her recent work.

"'Automating Inequality' is riveting (an accomplishment for a book on technology and policy). Its argument should be widely circulated, to poor people, social service workers and policymakers, but also throughout the professional classes. Everyone needs to understand that technology is no substitute for justice." — Liza Featherstone, The New York Times Book Review
