Workshop: Weaving Data Into Story

Join UVA School of Data Science Artist-in-Residence Nathalie Miebach for a hands-on, three-hour workshop that explores how storytelling and data can take shape through basket weaving. Participants will use simple weaving techniques to build 3D structures that transform their chosen dataset into a narrative object, combining numerical information with personal perspective. The emphasis is on play, risk-taking, and discovery—creating work that surprises in how it tells a story, how the data functions within it, and how the maker activates it as a storyteller. Dinner and all workshop materials will be provided. 

Seating is limited; interested students should enter the lottery for a chance to participate. Selected students will be notified by Oct. 17 to confirm their seat and are expected to bring a simple dataset with them to the workshop. Instructions are provided ahead of time.
